Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilgilanmasıyla oluşan endamsız polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lakırtııntısı ile ötekisi arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit madun birimi barındırır). Yapı taşı başkalık peptitlerin endamsız, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, gayrı amino asite sabah akşam, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilgilanır. Polipeptid binasına sıkılan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid ilgilarıyla ilgilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine sıkılan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
